It is essential to have windows in a bedroom as rooms without windows are not fit for sleeping and cannot be called bedrooms. As per the Building Code of Australia (BCA), the floor area of a room determines the amount of natural light required. The size of the window opening should be approximately 10% of the floor area. Natural light is vital for a place to be thermally comfortable and habitable. Residential spaces, in particular, need to be well ventilated and lit.
When the area of a room is small to accommodate a window opening, roof lights or skylights should be used to let in some natural light as per the National Construction Code (NCC ) of BCA. Having a window in the bedroom is utterly important and thus has legal specifications about it.
